The US state of North Carolina has recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, said Ukraine's Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova.

We are sincerely grateful to the state of North Carolina and personally to Roy Cooper for reaffirming his consistent position on the issue of recognizing the Holodomor as genocide every year since 2018,” Markarova wrote. The ambassador also expressed her gratitude to the Ukrainian community in the United States for their “tireless work” to recognize the Holodomor as genocide. Earlier, Washington, Maryland, Arizona, and Wyoming also recognized the Holodomor as genocide. In total, 35 US states have already made the decision. In addition, the mass famine of 1932-1933 was recognized as genocide by about thirty countries, as well as the European Parliament and PACE. The Ukrainian World Congress expresses gratitude to the global Ukrainian community for its consistent public activism and efforts contributing to the process of recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of Ukrainians.
