December 22, 1877 – Ordination to the Priesthood Ordained at Baltimore’s Cathedral of the Assumption Fr. McGivney began his pastoral work serving immigrant and working-class families March 29, 1882 – Founding of the Knights of Columbus While serving at St. Mary’s Parish in New Haven, Connecticut Fr. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus to provide spiritual support, financial protection, and fraternal unity for Catholic men and their families August 14, 1890 – Death at age 38 during a pneumonia outbreak Thomaston Connecticut, leaving behind a thriving order, several thousand members October 31, 2020 – Beatification Pope Francis beatified him in Hartford, recognizing him as Blessed Michael McGivney Vatican-approved miracle Feast Day August 13, because August 12 was his date of birth and August 14 his date of death Join Fr.
